What's in a name?

A "keystone" is central, wedge-shaped stone at the apex of an arch or vault. This crucial element locks all the other stones into position. The keystone is often the final piece placed during construction, and its insertion allows the arch to support itself and any loads above it.

Pennsylvania's nickname is the Keystone State, because of it's central location, connecting the north to the south, and because of it's important role in the formation of the United States.
